These IKEA Shelves Completely Changed How This Living Room Works
"I wanted my living and dining room to feel cozy and welcoming,"
"When I purchased my apartment, I was lucky enough that my living and dining room didn't necessarily need much fixing. But the one thing I liked least about my apartment was the entire space was covered in a dark gray carpet along with dark gray doors."
"I made sure to keep the flooring of the kitchen and living/dining room consistent so the space would feel bigger and wouldn't feel 'cut off.'"
The apartment living and dining areas were transformed to feel brighter, larger, and more welcoming. Dark gray carpet and doors were removed and replaced with light-toned laminate flooring and white paint to create visual continuity. The kitchen and living/dining flooring were kept consistent to avoid a cut-off look and increase perceived space. Laminate was chosen as an affordable alternative to real wood. A floor-to-ceiling open shelving unit on the back wall was installed to display collections and turn the wall into a colorful feature without paint or wallpaper. The redesign emphasizes personalization and organized display of treasures.
