Matthew Straight and April Pasilang moved from Cebu City to Bohol to escape the constant traffic and noise. They discovered a piece of land during a trip to Bohol and purchased it impulsively. Their off-grid home, designed to enhance natural light and airflow, was a project they started together after paying 1.3 million pesos for a 15,500-square-foot plot. The couple's transition reflects their mutual desire for a simpler lifestyle away from the bustling city.
"We didn't really ever get to open a window. It was always closed," Straight, 46, told Business Insider.
Straight had always thought about living off-grid in the countryside, but he didn't think Pasilang would be interested.
"When he mentioned it, it was like, oh my God, I wanted that too," Pasilang, a yoga instructor, told BI.
They paid 1.3 million Philippine pesos, or about $23,000, for the plot of land, which measures about 15,500 square feet.
