Swimming pool in Cork town to reopen in August after major refurbishment

Mallow Swimming Pool will reopen to the public in late August. The contractor hands the facility over to Cork County Council on Friday, July 31. Recommissioning is expected to take at least two weeks, supporting the late-August reopening plan. Major upgrade works will modernise the pool for local families and swimming enthusiasts. The visitor-focused upgrades include a new extension with reception, administration, staff facilities, and a visitors’ room. The pool area will receive modern changing facilities, new mechanical and electrical services, and improved thermal efficiency and energy ratings. The refurbishment is intended to reduce energy costs and emissions. The pool closed on March 3, 2025, with an earlier reopening estimate of June 2026, later delayed by issues during redevelopment.

"The information was provided to public representatives in recent days by the local authority who confirmed that the handover date from the contractor to Cork County Council is Friday, July 31. The local authority anticipate that it will take at least two weeks to recommission the pool after this, so they are planning to reopen to the public in late August."
