Rediscovered David Wojnarowicz mural could disappear from view again
Briefly

A mural by David Wojnarowicz, rediscovered in 2022 during building renovations in Louisville, may be covered with drywall again. Created in 1985 for The Missing Children Show, the mural is located in a former lithography factory being converted into luxury apartments. Architect Moseley Putney, who has a history with the original exhibition, contacted the David Wojnarowicz Foundation upon finding the artwork. Although building owners have assured that the mural will not be damaged, public access to view it will be lost with the planned renovations.
In 2022, local architect Moseley Putney discovered a mural by David Wojnarowicz while renovating a building, previously a lithography factory, in Louisville, Kentucky.
The developers plan to conceal the mural behind drywall as the space is being transformed into a high-end residential building.
Despite guarantees from building owners that no damage will occur, the public will not have access to view the mural.
Wendy Olsoff from PPOW notes that while assurances have been made, public visibility of Wojnarowicz's work remains uncertain.
