North Korea is set to complete the restoration of its recently capsized 5,000-tonne destroyer after an incident during a launch event in May. The vessel, which sustained hull damage, was raised and moored in Chongjin for repairs. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un criticized the launch failure and ordered several officials arrested for negligence. Full restoration is planned before an upcoming party meeting, with further examinations and repairs scheduled at Rajin Dockyard. This destroyer is critical for Kim's vision of modernizing the North Korean naval fleet.
Experts will now examine the warship's hull for the next stage of restorations, to be carried out at Rajin Dockyard over the coming week to 10 days.
Jo Chun Ryong, a senior official from North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, was quoted by KCNA as saying that the perfect restoration of the destroyer will be completed without fail before the deadline set by the country's ruler, Kim.
