My favourite villa: a rustic retreat on a Tuscan vineyard
Briefly

Castello di Vicarello is a picturesque estate in Maremma that makes guests feel at home instantly. The property includes La Vedetta, a recently renovated 12th-century watchtower that provides exceptional views and a charming atmosphere. The villa is adorned with original terracotta flooring and handcrafted window frames, showcasing a unique antique collection from the family's history. Guests can enjoy tranquil walks through lush gardens and experience stargazing from the tower, enhancing the retreat’s enchantment.
Castello di Vicarello needs no introduction. After 10 minutes here, you'll feel like a guest at the most beautiful family home you've ever set foot in.
La Vedetta, the property's transformed 12th-century watchtower, is at once a conservatory and micro-castle, and makes me audibly gasp.
With 360-degree views of the castle, vineyards and cascading valleys - best soaked up from the top of the watchtower, where post-dinner stargazing in pyjamas is incumbent.
Original terracotta flooring, Marmorino walls and window frames hand-carved by local artisans are a backdrop for the family's prolific antique collection.
