Roovice renovated a modest two-storey house dating from 1976 located in Itabashi, Tokyo. The project was executed under the Kariage Project, which renovates and reuses akiya (vacant houses) at no cost to owners and converts them into rental properties. The original house suffered from a fragmented layout and dim interiors that no longer suited contemporary living. The design team led by Koji Kato and Hiyori Igawa carried out the transformation with project site management by Hiyori Igawa, adapting the existing structure to meet contemporary spatial and lighting expectations while enabling sustainable reuse.
