"The site is a typical rectangular shape, with both sides and the rear of the house closed off from the neighboring houses, and no ventilation or sunlight can be expected from the side openings. The front façade faces neighboring houses. Despite these challenges, homeowners desire a home that feels open and lush with greenery."
A private residence in Jakarta was designed for a dentist couple and their two children on a constrained rectangular site. The property faces significant environmental challenges: neighboring houses block both side and rear openings, eliminating expected ventilation and natural light from those directions, while the front facade also faces adjacent homes. Despite these limitations, the architects successfully created a home that fulfills the owners' vision of an open, light-filled space abundant with greenery. The design demonstrates how thoughtful architectural solutions can transform a restrictive urban site into a residence that meets the family's lifestyle aspirations.
