Home4Good is a program designed to aid tenants who are behind on their rent by paying landlords the overdue amounts. This initiative has helped over 200 families in Brooklyn, with payments exceeding $1 million. The program particularly assists those facing unexpected expenses, with many participants being vulnerable seniors or working families. It aims to keep tenants housed and relieve financial burdens from landlords and the city. Home4Good is a cost-effective alternative to eviction proceedings, promoting stability for families and individuals in need.
"I thought I was going to be evicted because I couldn't come up with $2,500 unless I won the lottery," Green said.
"We are finding seniors are more vulnerable because their spending is flat, but everything is going up," said chief programming officer Maria Viera.
"Housing court is not the answer. [home4good] means more tenants are permanently housed, more landlords are not burdened with bills, and it saves costs for the city," Viera explained.
"It was overwhelming. I thank God for that because I would have been out on the street," Green added.
