On July 28, the National Air and Space Museum will unveil five new galleries, part of a $1 billion renovation project that started in December 2018. Visitors can reserve free timed-entry passes starting June 13 to explore these updated spaces, which include "Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall" and new exhibits like "Futures in Space" and "World War I: The Birth of Military Aviation." The Lockheed Martin IMAX theater will also reopen. By 2026, all 20 galleries are expected to be renewed, coinciding with the celebrations of the nation's 250th anniversary.
The new and renovated galleries will open to visitors at the National Air and Space Museum as part of the Smithsonian Institution's seven-year-long renovation.
This $1 billion renovation project began in December 2018, phasing in exhibition reopenings while temporarily closing for construction and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The galleries opening this July include both completely new spaces and revamped favorites, showcasing more than 1,400 new artifacts during the nonprofit's overhaul.
The museum is set to reopen the last seven galleries by July 1, 2026, coinciding with the nation's 250th celebrations.
