'Eyesore' Chingford cinema's redevelopment expected to start 'later this year'
Briefly

The Regal Cinema, originally opened in 1911 and later refurbished in 1935, is undergoing restoration after having closed in 1963. Plans were approved recently by Waltham Forest Council to restore the cinema and develop 33 residential units above it. The proposal includes a ground floor cinema with two screens and a cafe, aiming to revitalize the area and provide a social infrastructure facility for the community. The initiative is expected to enhance the local environment, create jobs, and transform a previously neglected property into a valuable community asset.
The empty premises have been described as being in a "poor state of disrepair and an eyesore in the local area," necessitating the restoration for community benefit.
The proposed restoration will not only revive the historical essence of The Regal Cinema but also introduce social infrastructure in the form of a new cinema and cafe.
