The Sutton Council's project for the Pastures Traveller and Gypsy site has been in development for over a decade. Recently granted planning permission, it will create 23 plots to alleviate significant overcrowding. The first phase, promising new living conditions for 10 families, is expected to complete by May 2025. However, project costs have risen by £691,000 due to insufficient initial savings and unexpected expenses. The council is now borrowing additional funds from its capital reserves, rather than the previously anticipated Greater London Authority funding, to ensure project completion by May 2026.
Sutton Council's ongoing Traveller and Gypsy site project aims to complete its first phase by May 2025, elevating overcrowded living conditions into new homes.
The increase in project costs, from £8.134m to an additional £691,000, is due to less efficient savings and unforeseen expenses like utility diversions.
