Demolition work at West Wickham leisure centre set to start within weeks
Briefly

Bromley Council is set to demolish and rebuild the West Wickham leisure centre at a cost of £22 million, after recent structural issues surfaced post-asbestos removal. Originally intended for refurbishment, the centre has been closed since February 2024. The plan now includes starting demolition by July 14 and construction by year-end, aiming for completion by early 2027. The revamped facility will feature modern amenities like a gym, café, and competition-length pool, with Alliance Leisure handling the project. A full planning application is anticipated next month.
Cllr Yvonne Bear emphasized the council's commitment, stating, 'We are determined to secure the long-term future of our much-valued West Wickham leisure centre.'
The latest proposal, as revealed by the Council, concluded that parts of the leisure centre are 'beyond economic repair,' necessitating a complete demolition and rebuild.
