"Berkeley Mills has been impacted by high costs and low margins, which made it hard to be competitive, leading to its closure after nearly four decades."
"The cancellation of a six-figure contract and an absence of future prospects served as the final straw for Berkeley Mills, prompting its decision to close."
Berkeley Mills, a custom furniture shop operating for nearly four decades, is closing due to high costs, low margins, and a recent significant contract cancellation. Company partner Scott Pew noted the challenge in maintaining competitive pricing while paying employees a living wage and managing rent and materials costs. Founded in 1988, the business began on Fourth Street and later moved to a 32,000-square-foot location on Seventh Street. A sale on showroom items is being held until the final closing date.
