"The upgrades [over time] left some room for improvement that I've been happy to build on,"
"felt like the brushed pewter hardware was doing a disservice to the 100-plus-year-old built-ins."
"To ensure as much light as possible, I put up a frosted glass decal on the top of the window and a barn door half curtain on the bottom half that I can swing out to open if I want some extra light,"
"Many people think peel-and-stick looks tacky, but when you're renting you don't really have many other options - and the peel-and-stick that is made now looks amazing!"
The century-old Brownstone bathroom retained original woodwork and built-ins but showed dated tan-and-black tile, cracked mismatching flooring, and hardware that clashed with vintage details. A large window next to the toilet now provides privacy while preserving light with a leaded-glass-look frosted decal on the top and a barn-door half curtain on the bottom that can swing open for extra daylight. Renter-friendly peel-and-stick black-and-white flooring replaced damaged tiles, and peel-and-stick chair-rail molding added color and profile. Hardware choices were reconsidered to better suit the 100-plus-year-old built-ins while keeping changes reversible for a rental.
