"We'd discounted the house in question completely based on how it looked from the outside,"
"Our own house had practically no garden whereas this place had a big garden, and that changed my mind completely,"
"I felt that he listened and was very flexible,"
"He didn't talk about controlling the whole process, unlike some architects we had spoken to - we went in with a fairly blank slate and in a way he read our minds."
A couple in Forest Hill bought a 1930s semi despite initial doubts about its exterior after seeing its large garden and internal potential. The family moved in March 2021 with plans focused on a kitchen extension. Word of mouth led them to local architect Hugo McCloud of 1200 Works, who listened, remained flexible and adapted to their wish list and limitations. The final project delivered a contemporary pitched rear extension creating a new kitchen-dining area and a hip-to-gable attic conversion adding a bedroom, bathroom and office. The build took eight months at an approximate cost of £500,000.
