"For the first time, anyone looking for the definition of an Irish word will be able to do so without relying on English dictionaries"
"Many people like me, who live a large chunk of every-day life speaking Irish, also drink cappuccinos and lattes, eat kebabs and burritos and use phrases like ad hoc."
"So, what are those words and phrases as Gaeilge? For many lifetimes the only way one could find that out was by reverting to English dictionaries and reference books and then translating things back into Irish."
For the first time, anyone looking for the definition of an Irish word will be able to do so without relying on English dictionaries. Many Irish speakers conduct large parts of daily life in Irish while also using international foods and loanwords such as cappuccinos, lattes, kebabs, burritos, and phrases like ad hoc. Historically, the only way to identify Irish equivalents for such words and phrases was to consult English dictionaries and reference books and then translate those results back into Irish. A new resource now enables direct lookup of Irish words and phrases in Irish.
