Disneyland marks its 70th anniversary with the premiere of 'Walt Disney - A Magical Life,' featuring an animatronic Walt Disney. The show, presenting archival footage and Disney's voice, introduces audiences to his early animation career, discussing his setbacks and successes. The animatronic, the most advanced in Disney history, features lifelike movements and portrays Disney in his 1960s office. Initially the only show in the Main Street Opera House, it will later rotate with the original 'Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,' which attracts fewer visitors.
The audio clips are from interviews he gave before his 1966 death, talking about his early days in animation: his first business going broke, losing the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and ultimately sketching Mickey Mouse and "Steamboat Willie," which set him on a path to create "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," the first feature-length animated motion picture, and, eventually, Disneyland.
The Audio-Animatronic figure is ambitious, the most technologically advanced the park has ever debuted. Disney is leaning on the desk in his early 1960s Walt Disney Studios office; he eventually stands and then goes back into a lean.
