Which countries recognize Palestinian statehood? DW 05/24/2024
Briefly

Norway, Spain, and Ireland will recognize a Palestinian state next week to support a two-state solution for lasting peace. Israel has opposed this decision and declared it will take action against these countries. Currently, 143 UN members favor recognizing Palestinian statehood, yet opposition from some key nations persists. Of 193 UN member states, 139 recognize Palestine, with many doing so since 1988 after the PLO's declaration of independence. Despite prior attempts for full UN membership, the Palestinian Authority's efforts have faced rejection from the Security Council.
"Israel will not remain silent in the face of those undermining its sovereignty and endangering its security," Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated, announcing the recall of ambassadors.
As of now, at least 139 nations officially recognize Palestine as a state, with significant endorsements occurring after the PLO's 1988 declaration of independence.
Most countries worldwide acknowledge the State of Palestine, but certain key powers still strongly oppose this recognition, particularly Israel.
The Palestinian Authority applied for full U.N. membership in 2011, but its bid was dismissed by the Security Council.
