Pete Hegseth said the US has more than sufficient weapons stockpiles and is capable of resuming war with Iran after a Washington meeting failed to produce a deal to end the conflict. He made the remarks at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. He linked readiness to a balance between highly capable and more plentiful munitions. A US-Iran peace deal remained elusive as Donald Trump claimed a possible approval of an agreement requiring major concessions from Tehran, including opening the Strait of Hormuz and eliminating Iran’s nuclear programme. Iranian officials indicated no final agreement had been reached. Hegseth also warned of rightful alarm over China’s military buildup and expansion, while saying Washington seeks a stable equilibrium in Asia for Americans and allies rather than needless confrontation.
