"The aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln changed its path from the South China Sea more than a week ago towards the Middle East. Its carrier strike group includes Arleigh Burke-class destroyers equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of striking targets deep inside Iran. The US military vessels en route to the Middle East are also equipped with the Aegis combat system, which provides air and missile defence against ballistic and cruise missiles and other aerial threats."
A US aircraft carrier strike group and other naval assets are moving toward the Gulf and the Middle East with Iran as the apparent focus. The Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group altered course from the South China Sea toward the region more than a week ago. The strike group includes Arleigh Burke-class destroyers armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles and ships equipped with the Aegis combat system for air and missile defence. US forces previously reportedly used Tomahawk missiles and B-2 bombers against Iranian nuclear sites. Antigovernment protests in Iran received public US support but were later quashed.
