He said leases are "no good when it comes to countries," described Mauritius's claims as "fictitious in nature," and warned Diego Garcia could be used in U.S. action against Iran. Mr Trump urged Britain not to lose control of the base. Sir Ed Davey argued that Britain cannot rely on the US under Trump and called for stronger ties with European neighbours.
