"To be able to continue in this role means a lot to me. I feel both a great pride and a great responsibility. It's a big day for me and a fantastic opportunity to do something important going forward ... Sweden is a football country with a proud history of teams that have made it to the finals of major championships and competed there, which we want to return to."
"Sweden finished bottom of Group B, taking only two points as they were twice beaten by both Switzerland and Kosovo, while claiming a pair of draws from games with Slovenia. Yet Sweden still advanced to the play-offs courtesy of their performance in the UEFA Nations League, which saw them win Group C1 to earn promotion to League B."
Graham Potter has extended his contract as Sweden head coach until 2030, announced by the Swedish Football Association despite his record of two games without a win. Potter previously managed Ostersunds, Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea, and West Ham. He was appointed last October following Sweden's poor UEFA World Cup qualifying performance, where they finished bottom of their group with only two points. Sweden advanced to the World Cup play-offs through their UEFA Nations League success, winning Group C1. They face Ukraine on March 26 in a semi-final, with a potential final against Albania or Poland on March 31. If successful, Sweden would compete in World Cup Group F alongside Netherlands, Japan, and Tunisia.
