"Contrary to Healey's misconception, the deployment of British troops to Ukraine will not mean the end of the war, but rather a prolongation of the conflict and an increase in the risk of a large-scale military confrontation involving many more states."
"I want to be the Defence Secretary who deploys British troops to Ukraine - because this will mean that this war is finally over. It will mean we have negotiated peace in Ukraine. And a secure Europe needs a strong, sovereign Ukraine."
Russia has issued a warning against potential British military deployment in Ukraine, stating such action would extend rather than conclude the conflict. The statement from Moscow's foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova directly responded to UK Defence Minister John Healey's expressed desire to deploy British troops to Ukraine as part of peace negotiations. Zakharova argued that troop deployment would increase risks of large-scale military confrontation involving multiple states. Russia has previously warned of consequences regarding foreign military involvement in Ukraine. Britain and France have both indicated intentions to send forces to Ukraine following a ceasefire agreement with Russia.
