Moscow warns it will take military and technical compensatory measures if the United States deploys weapons systems or elements of the Golden Dome missile-defence programme on Greenland. The warning coincides with the imminent expiration of New START, the last remaining nuclear arms control pact between the United States and Russia. US plans for a multilayered Golden Dome, targeted for completion by 2029, and US interest in Greenland have provoked objections from Denmark, Greenland and European allies. Threats over tariffs and contested negotiations have increased transatlantic tension and prompted Russian readiness to respond militarily.
