Richard Curran: There isn't a lot in this budget for you, unless you run a restaurant or build apartments
"The Government has lost the dressing room and is catering to nobody"
"When is a €9.4bn budget of spending and tax cuts so underwhelming? When the Government has lost the dressing room."
"Leaders lose the dressing room when those they lead no longer believe they have the wherewithal to fix the problems they are seeing every day."
A €9.4bn package of spending and tax cuts failed to energise or reassure the public. Public confidence in government capacity to solve everyday problems has eroded, causing core supporters to withdraw belief and backing. Losing the ‘‘dressing room’’ means leaders are perceived as lacking the wherewithal to address visible, practical issues, rendering policy announcements underwhelming. The budget’s measures therefore do not restore credibility or political momentum. Restoring support requires tangible results and renewed belief among voters that government can deliver real solutions to daily challenges.
