She accused President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of presiding over rampant corruption and apologised for once helping his 2022 election campaign, after they won a landslide victory. She resigned from the cabinet following a bitter feud with Marcos Jr. Relations soured further after Rodrigo Duterte was arrested and flown to The Hague to face ICC charges related to killings during anti-drug crackdowns. Rodrigo Duterte has said he would accept responsibility and refused to apologise, saying he acted for his country.
