World's No. 1 golfer commits to playing PGA Tour event in Napa next month
Briefly

Scottie Scheffler committed to play the Procore Championship at Silverado Resort in Napa in September. The Procore Championship opens the PGA Tour's FedExCup Fall schedule and serves as a tune-up before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, N.Y., from Sept. 26-28. Scheffler will lead the U.S. into that event. Scheffler won five tournaments in 2025, including the PGA Championship and The Open, plus the CJ CUP (Byron Nelson), the Memorial Tournament, and the BMW Championship, and finished tied for fourth at the Tour Championship. Scheffler has 18 career PGA Tour victories and multiple Masters wins. The Procore field includes past champions Sahith Theegala, Max Homa, Patton Kizzire, Cameron Champ, and Kevin Tway.
Scheffler, who will lead the U.S. into that event, has already won five tournaments in 2025, including the PGA Championship in May and The Open Championship in July. He also captured the CJ CUP (Byron Nelson) in early May, the Memorial Tournament in June, and most recently, the BMW Championship two weeks ago as part of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Scheffler finished tied for fourth at the Tour Championship in Atlanta last week.
Scheffler is the first player since Tiger Woods to win five-plus events in back-to-back years, and has drawn comparisons to Woods with his consistency and dominance in certain events. He has been the world's top player for longer than anyone since Woods and has now finished in the top 10 in 14 straight tournaments.
"It's very silly to be compared to Tiger Woods," Scheffler said last week. "I think Tiger is a guy that stands alone in the game of golf, and I think he always will. Tiger inspired a whole generation of golfers. You've grown up watching that guy do what he did week in, week out, it was pretty amazing to see."
