On Oct.7, 251 people were abducted during Hamas's attacks; 48 remain in captivity and 20 are believed to be alive and expected to be released Monday under a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The hostages include musicians, high-tech workers, fathers and main family breadwinners taken from the Nova music festival and kibbutzim. Families have campaigned publicly, placing pianos across Israel and organizing concerts, while relatives receive signs of life and maintain optimism. Some hostages appeared in Hamas videos and footage of abductions became defining images of the attacks. Earlier deals freed some family members while others remained captive.
