The State Department issued a directive requiring all U.S. diplomatic posts globally to immediately undertake security evaluations and convene Emergency Action Committees to assess threats and review security posture. The order, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, represents the first time all posts worldwide have been directed to review security due to Iran-related conflict. This follows a U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign beginning February 28 that prompted multiple Iranian and proxy attacks on American diplomatic facilities. Several embassies have sustained damage, including the Riyadh embassy which suffered roof collapse and smoke contamination. While most threats concentrated in the Middle East, incidents occurred elsewhere, including gunshots at the Toronto consulate and an explosion near the Oslo embassy. The directive requires posts to share credible threat information with U.S. citizens.
