US strikes against boats in Caribbean disregard international law', French minister says
"We have observed with concern military operations in the Caribbean region because they disregard international law and because France has a presence in this region through its overseas territories, where more than a million of our compatriots reside."
"They could therefore be affected by the instability caused by any escalation, which we obviously want to avoid."
"I don't give a shit what you call it."
G7 foreign ministers raised concerns about recent US strikes against suspected drug vessels in the Caribbean and off Latin America, questioning their legality under international law. French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot warned that the operations risk destabilising French overseas territories where over a million citizens live and urged avoidance of escalation. The United Kingdom reportedly suspended intelligence-sharing with the US in the Caribbean over fears of criminal liability. The US military has carried out at least 19 strikes, reportedly killing at least 75 people. US vice-president JD Vance dismissed allegations that the attacks amount to war crimes. The G7 meeting focused on Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan.
