Maxim Naumov carried the memory of his parents to the 2026 Winter Olympics and delivered an emotional short program at the Milano Ice Skating Arena. Former pairs world champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov died in the Jan. 29, 2025 crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 into a military helicopter, which killed 67 people including many in the figure skating community. Naumov brought an old photograph of his first moment on the ice with his parents to the kiss-and-cry and said he felt their presence with every glide and step. He opened with a quad salchow, landed a triple axel, and finished with a triple lutz-triple toe loop, completing one of his best short programs despite long odds.
