Former pairs world champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov died in the Jan. 29, 2025 crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 into a military helicopter, which killed 67 people including many in the figure skating community. Naumov brought an old photograph of his first moment on the ice with his parents to the kiss-and-cry and said he felt their presence with every glide and step.
