On December 26–27, 2025, Russia launched an overnight barrage that struck Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions using nearly 500 drones and about 40 missiles. The assault targeted energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, leaving roughly a third of Kyiv without power, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the attack as evidence that Russia is not serious about peace and accused Russian leadership of seeking to prolong Ukrainian suffering. US and Ukrainian teams prepared a 20-point peace framework reportedly handed to Russian negotiators, and Russia said it is 'formulating its position.' Zelenskyy expects to meet US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday.
