The UK confirmed it will not invite an Israeli government delegation to DSEI UK 2025 because of Israel's escalation of military operations in Gaza. The UK described the escalation as wrong and called for an immediate ceasefire, the return of hostages and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel's defence ministry called the decision discriminatory, said it would withdraw and not set up a national pavilion, and pledged support for Israeli industries that choose to participate. The defence expo is scheduled for 9–12 September at ExCeL London and is organised by a private company with government backing. The Gaza offensive began in October 2023 after a Hamas-led attack that killed around 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.
"There must be a diplomatic solution to end this war now, with an immediate ceasefire, the return of the hostages and a surge in humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza," the UK government spokesperson said in a statement on Friday. The defence expo, which is set to take place at Excel London from 9 to 12 September, is organised and run by a private company with backing from the government, Reuters reported.
"Israel launched its offensive in Gaza in October 2023 in response to the Hamas-led attack on Israel that killed around 1,200 people and took 251 hostage back to Gaza. Fifty hostages are still held there, 20 of whom are believed to be alive. Israeli military actions in Gaza have since killed 62,966 people, including at least 18,592 children, the Hamas-run health ministry has said."
