Two friends, an Israeli and a Palestinian, believe peace is possible after war
"AZIZ ABU SARAH: We need to make peace. UNIDENTIFIED PERSON: Inshallah."
"INON: It's like a hand reaching out that came and saved me from falling down into the trauma, into the pain, drowning in this ocean of sorrow and agony."
"INON: I lost my parents on October 7, but I won a brother. I won Aziz as a brother. And for me, it's not a partnership, it's not a friendship, it's a brotherhood."
Maoz Inon, an Israeli who lost his parents on October 7, 2023, and Aziz Abu Sarah, a Palestinian from Jerusalem, are partnering to promote peaceful coexistence. The two men met over tea and sustained a decade-long friendship that deepened after the October 7 attack when Abu Sarah reached out to support Inon. Inon shifted from his travel business to full-time activism for coexistence. Abu Sarah endured trauma when his older brother died after being beaten by Israeli troops during the first intifada and chose reconciliation over revenge, creating socially conscious travel and community initiatives. The pair convene with fellow activists at an art school in Jaffa to plan grassroots peace efforts.
