A deadly shootout in Yalova killed three Turkish police officers and six suspected ISIL members, all Turkish nationals. Security forces later arrested 357 additional suspected ISIL members in a coordinated crackdown. Intelligence indicated operatives were planning attacks targeting non-Muslims during the holiday season. ISIL maintains sleeper cells in Turkiye and remains active in Syria, across a shared 900-kilometre border. The group previously carried out a 2017 New Year's attack in Istanbul that killed 39.
