Trump said an operation to depose President Gustavo Petro "sounds good to me" and previously warned Petro to "watch his ass." Petro denied accusations of involvement in cocaine trafficking, warned that arresting him would "unleash the people's jaguar," said he was prepared to take up arms, and declared "Come and get me." The U.S. Treasury sanctioned Petro, his wife and son, and the interior minister over alleged drug-trade ties. Petro initiated a more than hourlong phone call requesting reestablished direct communications between foreign ministries and presidents to decrease tensions and restore dialogue.
