Trump plans to pardon former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez
""A great injustice has been righted and we are so hopeful for the future partnership of the United States and Honduras," Stabile said. "Thank you President Trump for making sure that justice was served. We look forward to President Hernandez's triumphant return to Honduras.""
""according to many people that I greatly respect," Hernandez was "treated very harshly and unfairly.""
""the United States will not be throwing good money after bad, because a wrong Leader can only bring catastrophic results to a country, no matter which country it is.""
President Donald Trump announced a pardon for former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was convicted in March 2024 in U.S. court of conspiring to import cocaine and sentenced to 45 years. Hernández served two terms as Honduras' leader and had been appealing while incarcerated at U.S. Penitentiary, Hazelton in West Virginia. Trump said Hernández had been treated very harshly and unfairly according to people he respects. Hernández's lawyer Renato C. Stabile called the pardon a righting of a great injustice and expressed hope for stronger U.S.-Honduras partnership and Hernández's return. Trump also endorsed Nasry 'Tito' Asfura for Honduras' presidency while warning against supporting the wrong leader.
