Trump: 'Board of Peace' members pledge $5 billion for Gaza
"US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the member states of his so-called "Board of Peace" have pledged more than $5 billion (4.2 billion) for reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in Gaza. In a post on his Truth Social platform, the US president announced that he will formally unveil the pledges when the board meets in Washington on Thursday. The event is expected to draw delegations from more than 20 countries, including heads of state."
"The US-brokered October 10 ceasefire calls for an armed international force to provide security and disarm Hamas, but few nations have expressed interest. Trump wrote that the member states of the board have committed thousands of personnel to the UN-authorized international stabilization and police force in the Palestinian enclave, calling the board "the most consequential international body in history." He didn't name which countries were planning to contribute."
"Trump is also urging Hamas to move ahead with full disarmament under his postwar plan for Gaza. "Very importantly, Hamas must uphold its commitment to full and immediate demilitarization," he wrote in his Truth Social post. Disarmament is an important part of the second phase of the US-mediated ceasefire plan that was agreed in October between Israel and Hamas. This plan aims to end the conflict that began after Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023."
Member states of the 'Board of Peace' have pledged more than $5 billion for Gaza reconstruction and humanitarian efforts, with formal pledge unveilings planned in Washington. The board's meeting is expected to draw delegations from over 20 countries, including heads of state. United Nations, World Bank and European Union estimates put Gaza reconstruction costs at $70 billion after more than two years of war. The US-brokered ceasefire calls for an armed international force to provide security and disarm Hamas, though few nations have shown interest. Indonesia confirmed it expects up to 8,000 troops ready by late June for a possible mission. Trump is urging full and immediate Hamas demilitarization under the postwar plan.
