Trump 'angry' after claim Ukraine targeted Putin residence, as Zelensky hits out at Russian 'lies' aimed at undermining peace talks
""I don't like it. It's not good," Mr Trump told reporters when asked if he was worried the allegation could affect his efforts to broker peace. "I learned about it from President Putin today. I was very angry about it.""
""It's a delicate period of time. This is not the right time. It's one thing to be offensive, because they're offensive. It's another thing to attack his house. It's ânot the right time to do any of that," he said."
""lies" that he said were cynically intended to "undermine diplomacy and justify dragging out the war". "Ukraine is doing everything to achieve peace. Russia must stop inventing ways to wage war and start thinking about how to restore security. Ukraine has put forward all the proposals," he added."
Moscow claimed Kyiv carried out a massive assault on a presidential residence in Novgorod and said its negotiating position would be revised. Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov alleged Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones at the forest retreat on Lake Valdai overnight, and said all had been shot down with no damage. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the assertion as lies intended to undermine diplomacy and justify prolonging the war. Zelensky said Ukraine is doing everything to achieve peace and that Russia must stop inventing ways to wage war and restore security. Yuri Ushakov said Putin and Trump spoke and that Putin had been briefed about Washington's negotiations with Ukraine. Trump described the call with Putin as a very good talk and said the timing of attacks on a leader's house was not appropriate.
