An inferno swept through seven highrise towers at the eight-block Wang Fuk Court housing complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong, killing over 100 people and leaving hundreds missing. Firefighters took about 40 hours to fully extinguish the blaze after it spread rapidly among buildings. Foam panels, bamboo scaffolding and green mesh netting used during renovations contributed to rapid fire spread; authorities arrested 11 people connected to the renovation. Toronto resident Paul Chow feared for relatives but learned his parents were on vacation and his sister at work; his family remains unable to access their unit and is heartbroken.
