A military helicopter serving the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia crashed at Aden Abdulle airport in Mogadishu, resulting in at least three fatalities among the eight people on board. The helicopter, initially owned by the Ugandan Air Force, was in service with the mission aimed at combating al-Shabab militants. Local authorities are investigating the incident, while firefighters worked to control the fire following the crash. Minor delays were reported at the airport, but regular flights have since resumed.
The helicopter was arriving from Baledogle Airfield in the Lower Shabelle region with eight people on board, of whom three have been confirmed killed, said Artan Mohamed, who heads the immigration office at Aden Abdulle airport.
Most of it has been put out, but there is still smoke, which we hope will be cleared soon,
