Elisa Orsi and her husband, David Sleight, moved from Australia to Qatar in 2019 with their three children after Sleight accepted a job. The couple continued extensive travel using school holidays and Sleight's teaching career, visiting places such as Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt. Life in Qatar felt safe and comfortable and served as a regional base, but after their summer holiday in 2024 they decided they needed a change. They relocated to Hangzhou, China in August 2024 after Sleight found a teaching job ad, and they involved their children early and used videos and school information to ease the transition.
