"The US Embassy is not in a position at this time to evacuate or directly assist Americans in departing Israel. However, they are now issuing notices telling Americans that government assistance is available. The embassy in Jerusalem said in a late Wednesday notice that the US government is ready to help Americans leave the Middle East if you choose to take advantage of the options available."
"Today, a Department of State charter flight of American citizens departed the Middle East in route to the United States, as part of our ongoing efforts to assist Americans return home. Additional flights will be surged across the region and American citizens in UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other locations can access evacuation assistance."
US embassies across the Middle East have shifted their stance on assisting American citizens with evacuation. Previously, embassies stated they could not help citizens leave and directed them to use commercial flights. The State Department has now deployed charter flights to facilitate evacuations, with the first flight departing Wednesday carrying American citizens back to the United States. Additional flights are being deployed across the region, including to UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The Jerusalem embassy confirmed the US government is prepared to assist Americans who wish to leave the Middle East, reversing earlier statements about inability to provide direct evacuation assistance.
