Local reports said 29 people, including villagers and Buddhist monks, were hurt while Thai military said some of its personnel were also injured. The confrontation occurred in a contested settlement claimed by Thailand as part of Ban Nong Ya Kaew and by Cambodia as part of Prey Chan village. The incident was the most significant violence since a July ceasefire that followed weeks of artillery, rockets and air strikes which killed at least 48 people and displaced hundreds of thousands. Cambodia's Ministry of Defence condemned the actions, urged Thailand to avoid escalation, and described them as violations of Cambodian sovereignty and international law.
