Thailand launched airstrikes along its disputed border with Cambodia on Monday morning, with the Thai military saying operations were in response to cross-border attacks. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said military actions would continue as necessary to defend sovereignty and protect public safety. The Royal Thai Army accused Cambodian forces of attacking Thai troops in Sisaket on December 7 and reported further clashes that killed one soldier and wounded eight, and injured two earlier. Thai forces reported a clash in Ubon Ratchathani that prompted airstrikes and moved to evacuate residents to centers. Cambodia denied initiating attacks, accused Thailand of striking Cambodian troops in Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey, and urged an immediate halt to hostile activities that threaten regional stability.
