Teenage boys spend more hours gaming than in school, suggests study
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"Teenage boys in the UK are spending more time playing video games than being in a classroom, according to research. The average 15- to 17-year-old boy spends approximately 34 hours a week on video games, a new report by Mumsnet has revealed. In comparison, pupils are expected to be in school for 32.5 hours a week. While boys consistently tend to play more video games than girls, on average the overall time children spend gaming has increased to 20.4 hours a week from 16.8 hours last year."
The Independent covers reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech, investigates political financing including Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC, and produces documentaries such as 'The A Word' that spotlight American women fighting for reproductive rights. Donations enable on-the-ground reporting, help journalists present multiple perspectives, and support free public access by avoiding paywalls. A Mumsnet poll of more than 1,000 parents of seven- to 17-year-olds reported that UK boys aged 15–17 average about 34 hours weekly gaming, overall child gaming rose to 20.4 hours from 16.8, and most parents express concern about screen time and addiction.
