Defence spending will increase to more than 3 percent of GDP and is planned to reach 5 percent by 2030 to counter threats and drive defence-industry development. Much of the current air-defence capability relies on US-made Patriot and Taiwan-developed Sky Bow missiles. Taiwan is a self-governing island claimed by China, and Taiwan will strive to maintain the status quo, protect peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and promote regional prosperity.
