Super typhoon Fung-wong (Uwan) struck Dinalungan town in Aurora province with sustained winds up to 115 mph and gusts up to 143 mph, carrying a 1,118-mile-wide rain and wind band that could cover two-thirds of the archipelago. The storm arrived while the Philippines continued recovery from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which left at least 224 people dead in central island provinces and later killed at least five in Vietnam. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of emergency. Authorities evacuated more than one million people from high-risk villages while disaster teams conducted rescues amid near-zero visibility and severe flooding.
