"Last week, the United States imposed sanctions on three RSF commanders over their alleged roles in the 18-month siege and capture of elFasher, the capital of North Darfur State in western Sudan. In a statement, the US Department of the Treasury accused the RSF of perpetrating a horrific campaign of ethnic killings, torture, starvation, and sexual violence during the siege and capture of el-Fasher, which fell to the RSF in October."
Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Mohamed Dagalo's meeting with President Yoweri Museveni focused on ending the war. Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced Uganda's reception of Dagalo, calling it an insult to humanity and the Sudanese people and saying it disregards lives lost to his militia. Rights groups and international organisations have accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of war crimes and targeting civilians. Khartoum said hosting Dagalo disregards human values and breaches laws prohibiting support for rebel forces against a legitimate government. The 2023 conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has displaced at least 11.7 million people and killed an estimated 150,000. The United States sanctioned three RSF commanders over alleged roles in the siege and capture of elFasher and associated atrocities.
